Here's a simple way to think about it:
Choose the Breastfeeding Counsellor course if you want a qualification to provide hands-on, 1-2-1 breastfeeding support in a clinical, voluntary, or private setting.
Choose the IBCLC Preparation course if you want to work as a fully board-certified Lactation Consultant and are ready to commit to the IBCLC exam pathway.
Still not sure? Drop me a message and I'll help you figure out the right fit for your background and goals.

For the Breastfeeding Counsellor course — no. This course is open to anyone passionate about supporting breastfeeding families. For the IBCLC Preparation course, a health or clinical background is typical, though the IBLCE eligibility requirements will determine your specific pathway. Contact us if you're unsure.
Any time. Both courses are open-enrolment — no waiting for an intake date. You can begin as soon as your payment is confirmed.
Both courses are entirely self-paced. Most students complete the Breastfeeding Counsellor course within 3–6 months and the IBCLC Preparation course within 6–12 months, depending on prior knowledge and study time available.
Live tutorials are online group sessions with Shelley designed to bring the course content to life, answer your questions, and help you connect theory with clinical practice. Dates and access details are provided on enrolment.
Yes. On successful completion of the course (including passing all module quizzes), you will receive a certificate of completion. The IBCLC Preparation course certificate documents the 90 hours of LEAARC - Approved didactic instruction required for IBLCE® exam eligibility.
